The Design: A TRUE SPORTCITY
With their decisive, simple yet distinctive lines, one glance is enough to see that either is a true Sportcity. The compact yet protective front shield, generous seat, passenger grab handles and flat platform all compress maximum spaciousness into minimum space. The essential designs do not stop either from offering one of the best under-seat storage compartments in their class, with enough room for a full face helmet.

The compact size, comfort and practicality have always been winning features of the Sportcity range.
The Sportcity 125 and 125 are the perfect antidotes to traffic despite their spaciousness and comfort. Generous, anatomically shaped seats offer plenty of room for rider and passenger. Flat platform also provides ample space for bulky objects.
The passenger grab handle is ergonomically shaped. And the complete but rational instruments deliver all the information you could possibly need, in a clear and intuitive manner.

The CHASSIS
Designed for maximum rationality, the Sportcity 125's and Sportcity 125's frame is a classical open cradle frame in high strength steel tube. Thanks to careful engineering, this frame delivers excellent rigidity and gives a confidence-inspiring ride and an excellent level of active safety.
With 32 mm stanchions and a wheel travel of 85 mm, the hydraulic fork effectively smoothes out even the roughest road surfaces.

With all scooters type, the engine-transmission assembly acts as swingarm and is damped by an adjustable shock absorber. A particularly generous wheel travel of 84 mm (one of the best for this category of scooter) achieves a smooth ride even on uneven and damaged road surfaces.
To keep both as compact as possible, 14 inch wheels have been combined with generous tubeless tyres (120/70 at the front and rear). Combined with the excellent frame, this suspension and wheel system gives either excellent stability and a truly intuitive ride that anybody can enjoy. A powerful 220 mm front disc with a two-piston floating caliper, plus a dependable 140 mm rear drum mean instant stopping.

The Engines
Modern and ecological four stroke engines make Sportcity 125 and Sportcity 125 nippy in traffic as well as safe and comfortable. Thanks to advanced design and ultra-efficient combustion, these engines are sporty, clean running, and impressively economical to run. Simple design means robustness and reliability too. Both engines feature forced air cooling and a carburettor fuel system. Both models are equipped with a catalytic converter and conform to Euro 3 standards.

Yamaha Majesty, 2011Highlights :
ENGINE
  • Peppy, 395cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC, 4-valve, 4-stroke, single cylinder engine produces excellent highway capable power and incredible fuel economy. Top speed of the Majesty 400 is over 150 km/h, making it a great city and highway capable commuter.
  • Fuel consumption of 21.5 kpl or 61 mpg. Your actual consumption may vary.
  • Liquid cooling maintains consistent engine temperatures even while idling at stoplights or in traffic, for maximum performance and extended engine life.
  • Convenient electric starting with automatic decompression system means fast, reliable starting.
  • Automatic cam chain tensioner reduces both maintenance chores and mechanical engine noise.
  • Single axis engine counterbalancer minimizes vibration to maximize rider and passenger comfort. This is one smooth running scoot.
  • 4-valve cylinder head design provides optimum breathing efficiency for great engine performance. Highway speeds are easily obtainable with this powerful engine.
  • Suction piston-type 38mm throttle body fuel injection provides crisp, clean throttle response with excellent fuel economy and reduced exhaust emissions. The system also features a throttle position sensor (T.P.S.) that provides information to the ECU to provide the most accurate ignition timing possible for maximum performance at all rpms. Special idle speed control means there is no need to adjust the idle… a special motor regulates idle speed.
  • The F.I. system uses a 12 hole injector for excellent fuel atomization and more complete combustion. The injector is located downstream of the throttle body in the intake manifold.
  • Electric fuel pump is mounted inside the fuel tank to provide consistent flow of fuel.
  • Rear-mounted radiator is assisted by an electric fan to maintain consistent engine temperatures even while idling in stop-and-go traffic.
  • Dual air box with dual air filters provides maximum performance and excellent air filtering qualities to extend engine life.
  • Fully automatic V-belt transmission ensures easy, twist-the-throttle-and-go operation.
  • Maintenance-free digital TCI ignition system provides a precise, high-voltage spark for seamless engine performance, sure starts and excellent reliability.
  • Air Induction System (A.I.S.) reduces exhaust emissions for a very clean, environmentally friendly engine. The A.I.S. system reduces hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide emissions by injecting fresh air into the exhaust port to completely burn any unburned gases in the exhaust. This design engine easily meets the EU-3 European emission standards.
  • Environmentally muffler not only produces a quiet exhaust note but also features a catalytic converter that reduces harmful hydrocarbons and nitrous oxide exhaust emissions.
  • Final drive is via a clean, quiet, double-cog V-belt.

CHASSIS/SUSPENSION

  • Open, step-through, backbone-style, aluminum and steel frame design allows fast, easy mounting and dismounting. The upper portion of the frame (rear section) utilizes Yamaha's controlled filling die-cast technology for great strength with light weight.
  • Trailing axle 41mm hydraulic front fork with 120mm (4.7") of wheel travel delivers good bump-absorbing performance and great rider and passenger comfort.
  • Dual shock rear suspension features 104mm (4.1") of wheel travel while providing a plush, comfortable ride.
  • 267mm front disc brake with twin piston caliper provides excellent stopping power.
  • 267mm rear disc with single piston caliper provides strong, reliable stopping power.
  • Special design parking brake provides additional confidence when parking the Majesty on sloped ground. A convenient handlebar-mounted lever activates the rear brake to prevent the unit from moving. The lever is designed to interfere with the left handlebar to prevent the unit from being ridden with the park brake activated.
  • Rugged, cast aluminum, "mag style" (5-spoke) wheels are fitted with tubeless tires. Front wheel size is MT3.00X14 (5-spoke) with 120/80x14 tubeless tire and rear wheel size is MT4.00x13 (6-spoke) fitted with a 150/70x13 tubeless tire.
  • Roomy, 2-person seat ensures excellent comfort. Rider and passenger back supports further enhance comfort. The rider portion of the seat can be adjusted forward or backward to add or reduce leg room.
  • Huge, 60-litre, locking underseat storage compartment can easily hold two (2) full-face helmets. A vanity light is provided in the rear section of the trunk for added convenience.
  • Additional storage can also be found in the front area of the rider cockpit. There is one larger lockable compartment and one smaller non-lockable compartment.
  • Specially designed windshield with laminar flow venting (this vent helps reduce the vacuum effect common with many windshield designs) provides excellent wind and weather protection.
  • Dual 60/55-watt halogen headlights provide a bright beam of light as well as that sleek, cat-eye image.
  • Bright, eye-catching LED taillight
  • Stylish front apron and floorboards provide excellent splash and wind protection and highlights the Majesty's functional side.

Aprilia Scarabeo 200, 2011

Aprilia Scarabeo 200, 2011
American MSRP: $3,499 USD

Aprilia Scarabeo 200 Features

STYLE
The inspiration remains the same. Giuseppe Ricciuti, the father of Scarabeo, is the man behind this latest model too. The new 200 conserves all the usual classic and modern style emblems, decisive features and smooth lines in an instantly harmonious continuity. Once again Scarabeo has redefined urban scooter design. Yet in a world of throw-away fashions, Scarabeo’s reassuring lines are a welcome constant. With one-in-a-million looks, Scarabeo lets you live the city in true elegance. The 200 lives up to its reputation of authentic trend setter. The 200 embodies pure Scarabeo style, free from excess and with nothing out of place. Only Scarabeo could achieve such perfection. Small enough to nip through the most chaotic traffic, Scarabeo also offers advanced ergonomics and unrivalled functionality to ensure that you always ride in comfort and style.

THE DETAILS THAT COUNT

A flat platform provides greater space for load carrying. A windshield fixed to the steering head deviates air flow over the rider, guaranteeing turbulence-free travel even at high speed. Generous analog-digital instrumentation includes an on-board computer with handlebar controls: the system’s many functions include outside air temperature display with ice warning. Even the centre stand has been carefully designed to afford the best possible leverage, so that lifting your Scarabeo on to it stand is a piece of cake. The aluminium luggage rack provides the perfect surface for fitting a top box. And the intelligent use of chrome, plus direction indicators integrated in the handlebars, and many other clever details, make Scarabeo totally unique.

The Engine

As with everything else on the Scarabeo 200, the engine is brand new, and designed by Aprilia specially for Scarabeo. These advanced, lightweight, rational and clean running engines combine excellent performance with miserly consumption, are almost vibration-free in use and boast ultra-low emissions, in keeping with Scarabeo’s environmentally friendly philosophy. This single cylinder four stroke engine delivers fun, safety and comfort. It is liquid cooled with four valve, double overhead cam cylinder heads, used for the first time on an Aprilia scooter of this size. By optimizing valve timing, this technical solution, typical of high performance engines, succeeds in combining high power with low emissions. No wonder the Scarabeo 200 boasts the highest performance of any scooter of its class. The 200 version delivers an impressive 14 kW (19 HP) at 8250 rpm, with generous torque (17 Nm at 7500 rpm), for sporty yet relaxing acceleration and excellent active security under all riding conditions. In keeping with the original design concept, the engine is fuelled by a modern Keihin carburettor for simple, trouble-free use. A catalytic converter is fitted to ensure cleaner exhaust emissions and bring Scarabeo 200 within the limits of EURO 3 legislation. Particularly low fuel consumption plus a generous 8 litre fuel tank, combine to give more than enough autonomy for a week’s urban commuting.

CHASSIS
Scarabeo’s classical yet trend-setting good looks have never prevented use of the latest chassis technology. In fact, conservation of many of the far-sighted stylistic and technical design solutions incorporated into the range since 1993 has provided an excellent base for the development of this latest model. The new 200 is designed to maintain all the unique features that make Scarabeo an icon of our times, without losing sight of the easy riding and advanced performance and safety that characterise all Aprilia products. These defining values are engineered into the very DNA of the new Scarabeo, making it agile, safe in all situations, and more than able to deliver thrilling motorcycle style handling where road conditions permit. Merit for these impressive results is due mainly to the exceptional rigidity and robustness of the new high strength steel frame, and to the perfect setup of the suspension, which is tuned to deliver maximum feel and a super-smooth ride. The front fork is a 35 mm hydraulic unit. At the rear, the engine and transmission assembly acts as swingarm, with the assistance of an aluminium reaction arm. Simple, lightweight, yet effective, this solution incorporates shock absorbers that let you adjust preload to four different settings to cater for all possible loads and riding styles. The refined wheels are fitted with 16” high-wall tubeless tyres (100/80 at the front, 120/80 at the rear). This combination is not only perfect for negotiating the hazards of city roads but also makes the new Scarabeo amazingly stable and intuitive to ride for expert and novice riders alike. Scarabeo has never skimped on brakes, and the new 200 is no exception. The front wheel features a 260 mm disc and a floating caliper with three parallel pistons, while the rear wheel is equipped with a 220 mm disc and two piston caliper. The front and rear wheels are linked by a new integral braking system that distributes braking force between the two wheels and guarantees ultra-short stopping distances in complete safety.

Honda EV Electric Moped Prototype, 2004

Honda EV Electric Moped Prototype, 2004

With a length of 1,290 mm and weighing 44 kg, the Moped-EV is compact and light. Its nickel hydrogen battery, located inside an aluminum frame, is extremely light, dissipates heat efficiently, and, at 360 watt-hours, offers exceptionally long life. Powerful enough to climb a twelve-degree incline, the electric moped offers performance comparable to that of an internal combustion engine bike of the same class.
Unlike most other bikes, which employ a grip throttle, the Moped-EV features a two-stage lever throttle located beneath the right handlebar. Worked easily by the thumb, the lever throttle helps make riding easy even for less-experienced riders.

The Moped-EV features a unified module in the rear swing arm that integrates the motor with a controller, which regulates the driving functions and the discharge and recharging of electricity.

The Honda has long conducted research into the development of next-generation power sources that reduce noxious emissions and help slow global warming. In 1994, Honda developed the CUV ES, an electric scooter leased to government institutions. Following in the tracks of that revolutionary vehicle, the Moped-EV is designed to offer quiet, clean riding both for commuting and recreational use

Honda Numa Hybrid Scooter Prototype, 2004

Honda Numa Hybrid Scooter Prototype, 2004

The new prototype features an alternating current generator (ACG) with an idle stop function and the Honda PGM-FI electronic fuel injection system. In addition to an electronically controlled belt converter and a range of Honda environmental technologies, the new scooter features a dual series and parallel hybrid powertrain with a direct rear-wheel drive electric motor. Thanks to a compact power system and a rechargeable nickel hydrogen battery located under the front cowl, the hybrid scooter is about the same size as the Dio Z4, a standard-size 50cc scooter, and is only 10 kg heavier.

The hybrid scooter’s internal combustion engine and direct rear-wheel-drive electric motor function in two distinct modes. In series mode, when riding on flat ground and when high output is not required, the engine alone powers the electric motor. In parallel mode, used during acceleration and when high output is required, the electric motor assists the engine. In parallel mode, an electronically controlled belt converter automatically selects the optimum assist ratio.

The most efficient use of energy, the hybrid system charges the battery during deceleration and whenever possible and utilizes this power when higher output is required. In addition, the scooter enters idle stop mode, when the scooter is stopped, and whenever power is not needed, during deceleration. These advanced features allow the hybrid scooter to achieve 1.6 times the fuel economy of the Dio Z4 (when riding on flat ground at 30 km/h) and to produce 37% less carbon dioxide

Can-Am Spyder Roadster SE5: Sequential electronic five-speed (SE5) transmission
The new SE5 (Sequential Electronic Five-Speed), Semi-Automatic Transmission-equipped BRP Can-Am Spyder Roadster SE5s have started being shipped to consumers. Those that wanted the ease of use and freedom will soon receive an early holiday gift, as most have been waiting months for the state-of-the art transmission option.

The SE5 is an electronically controlled mechanical transmission that uses a simple thumb and index finger shifter which will make shifting more precise than a conventional manual clutch. This creates a smooth and seamless shift for both up and down shifting. No more clutching with your hand and shifting with your foot, all it takes is a simple push of the shifter button to go to your desired destination.

Detailed Product Information:

If you are not familiar with BRP (Bombardier Recreational Products), it is the powersport company that produces Sea-Doo watercrafts, Ski-Doo snowmobiles and, Can-Am ATVs. With its new addition, BRP has products for the water, the snow, the dirt and now the open road!

While initially concepting an on-road vehicle more than five years ago, BRP wanted to stay strong to its core value and innovative spirit by designing a paradigm-shifting vehicle. The result is the Spyder – a roadster that makes a true statement and is like nothing anyone has seen before – with a Y-architecture providing unique proportions blended with flowing-edge design.

The Spyder has state-of-the-art power and technology, including a Rotax 990 V-Twin engine featuring dual-overhead cams and four valves per cylinder. This same 106 horsepower engine is found in a number of reputable motorcycles. It will be available with two transmission options, a sequential manual five-speed (SM5) and sequential electronic five-speed (SE5) transmission, both of which include a transmission-based reverse.

The semi-automatic option is an electronically controlled mechanical transmission that uses a simple thumb shifter on the ergonomic handle. This creates a smooth and seamless shift for both up and down shifting. Plus, its intelligent technology automatically downshifts making coming to a stop effortless and worry free. This option will be available to the public later this summer or early fall.

The Can-Am Spyder features a Dynamic Power Steering (DPS) and a Vehicle Stability System (VSS) engineered in conjunction with Bosch, which features anti-lock brakes, traction control and stability control.
